Design & consulting
Design a magnet that does exactly what your product needs.
Most products settle for a plain magnet and then fight its behaviour — too strong to release, too weak to hold, grabbing where it should guide. We design the magnet instead: the pattern, the material, the force, the release. From the behaviour you want to a spec a manufacturer can build.
What we design for
Behaviour first, not grade first.
A coded (programmable) magnet’s face is printed with a pattern of magnetic regions, so it can do far more than stick. We design for the behaviour your mechanism actually needs.
Services
Where we come in.
Pattern design
Design the pole pattern that produces the align, latch, spring, hold or detent behaviour you need — engagement distance, holding force and release torque tuned to your mechanism.
Material & grade selection
Neodymium, samarium cobalt, alnico, ferrite or flexible — chosen against temperature, corrosion, cost and the pull you actually need, not the strongest thing on the shelf.
Force & release calculations
Holding force, pull-off, working gap and release torque worked out up front, so the first prototype behaves like the drawing rather than surprising you.
Prototyping
Prove the behaviour with real demo magnets and kits in your hand before it goes into a design, then iterate the pattern from what you feel.
Spec & drawing
Leave with a manufacturable specification — geometry, grade, coating, pattern and tolerances — that you can hand to a supplier and get back what you asked for.
Sourcing
Matched to the right maker for the run, from a single coded demo to production volume, across the makers and suppliers we track in the field.
How we work
From behaviour to a spec, in four steps.
Tell us the behaviour
Not the magnet — the job. What has to align, hold, release or click, in what space, at what force, and where it lives (heat, weather, wash-down). We start from your mechanism.
Concept & pattern
We propose the material, geometry and pole pattern, with the force and release numbers worked out, and the trade-offs stated plainly so you can choose.
Prototype & feel it
We put real magnets in your hand — the behaviour, not a simulation — and tune the pattern from what the prototype actually does.
Spec & source
You leave with a manufacturable drawing and a sourcing plan, and if you want it, a place to buy from run one.
What you leave with
Deliverables.
- A behaviour brief — the job written down in force, gap and motion, agreed before any magnet is chosen.
- A pattern design — the pole layout that produces it, with the numbers behind it.
- A working prototype — real magnets that do the thing, to feel and test.
- A manufacturable spec — grade, geometry, coating, pattern and tolerances a supplier can build to.
- A sourcing plan — who makes it, at demo and at volume.
- The store, if you want it — we also build the site that sells the finished product (that is the rest of what we do).

Tell us what it has to do.
Send the behaviour you need and a rough idea of size, force and environment. You will get a straight, useful reply — whether that is a design engagement, an off-the-shelf coded magnet, or an honest “a plain magnet will do this.”
